Iterate rather than trying to get perfection in one prompt. Ask it to critique its own output, to rewrite in a different style, or to expand specific sections. Treat it as a collaborative drafting process.

I've been working with LLMs professionally for two years and the thing that trips most people up is treating them like search engines or databases. They're not. An LLM doesn't retrieve stored facts — it generates text that statistically resembles what would follow your prompt, based on patterns in its training data. This is why it can be completely confident and completely wrong simultaneously. For tasks where accuracy is critical, you need to verify outputs independently. For tasks where it's assisting with generation, editing, brainstorming, or summarisation, it's genuinely transformative. The skill is knowing which category your task falls into and using the tool appropriately.
