Getting a passport in Nigeria requires visiting a Federal Passport Office. Here's the current process:
Online application: go to the Nigeria Immigration Service portal (immigration.gov.ng), create an account, fill the application form, and pay the fee online. Standard (32-page) passport fee is approximately ₦15,000; 64-page booklet is approximately ₦20,000-25,000. Save your transaction ID.
Required documents: birth certificate or age declaration affidavit, National ID card or NIN slip, old passport (for renewal), utility bill or other evidence of address, two passport photographs.
Book an appointment at a passport office near you — Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, and other state capitals have offices. Processing time varies: theoretically standard processing is 6 weeks, express is 3 weeks, but actual times vary significantly by location and demand.
Very important: use official channels only. There's a large secondary market of "agents" who offer to expedite processing for fees, but these range from legitimate document preparation assistance to outright fraud. The official online system is the safest route.
